Workshop summary:

Part I:

Through more than 20 years of experience in immediate loading of the implants, Dr. Eduardo Anitua has developed the reliable and predictable protocol. Taking care of soft tissues and sealing of the implants and prosthesis, Dr. Anitua has worked out a Bioblock concept, which he will share during the workshop.

Part II:

Nowadays, one of the major challenges in implantology states for how to prevent, avoid and treat periimplantitis. In search of the answers to these challenging questions, Dr. Anitua has developed the clear and predictable protocol, which he will explain step by step. And to summarize all his experience and developed clinical solutions, Dr. Anitua will present and sign his new book “Periimplantitis. A New Approach In Prevention And Treatment”.

In 2011, he received an Honorary Professorship by the University of Buenos Aires, and in 2013 the Brånemark Osseointegration Award by the Osseointegration Foundation/Academy of Osseointegration. His main research areas are in tissue regeneration around dental implants, surface technology and Guided Bone Regeneration. He has authored and co-authored more than 300 publications, case reports and several text books including two GBR books and two ITI Treatment Guides. He widely lectures at national and international conferences.

Workshop summary:

Today, in an active competence center in implant dentistry, such as the University of Bern, the utilization of bone augmentation procedures is daily routine and used in about 60% of all patients (Engel Brugger et al. 2015). The most common surgical techniques ar Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) and Sinus Floor Elevation (SFE).

This video workshop will present the various surgical techniques step-by-step. This includes early implant placement with simultaneous Contour Augmentation using GBR in esthetic single tooth replacement and in sites with multiple missing teeth, implant placement with simultaneous GBR in the posterior mandible, and implant placement with simultaneous SFE using the lateral window technique. In addition, the techniques of local harvesting, techniques of autogenous bone chips and the technique of Bone Conditioned Medium (BCM) will be demonstrated.

Workshop summary:

From both histological and anatomical point of view, the alveolar bone is a tooth dependent structure that develops in conjunction with eruption, and its topography is determined by the form of the teeth and their axis of eruption. In the first phase of remodelling of the buccal/lingual walls of extraction sites, the bundle bone is resorbed due to the lack of nutritive support from the periodontal ligament and replaced with woven bone. Consequently, the socket’s walls will reduce in both vertical and horizontal dimensions. This resorption may lead to aesthetic and functional disadvantages that can compromise future implant placement since, in order to have a correct endosseous implant positioning, an adequate volume of the bone ridge is essential.  Current knowledge suggests to augment fresh extraction sockets rather that to wait for spontaneous healing and perform further guided bone regeneration. Different techniques have been presented in literature in order to preserve the post-extraction site, including the use of barrier membranes, tridimensional matrix and bone fillers. An “open-healing” approach is nowadays commonly used, combining a proper management of soft tissues with biological integration of biomaterials.
